Another round of Big Ideas announced

Made In Corby are delighted to announce the three successful arts projects selected by a community panel for support from the second round of the Big Ideas scheme. The first round of Big Ideas delivered some fantastic arts opportunities, such as Corby Big Film Week and Much Ado About Corby, a Shakespeare themed fun-day in Coronation Park. This second round of the Big Ideas is just as ambitious and aims to wow people with spectacular performances, surprise people with unfamiliar art forms, develop skills, build confidence and encourage people to try something new.

The first successful Big Idea is Circa District Circus Event, created by Nikki Hammond, a local performing arts graduate training in circus skills and aerial performance. Circa District will bring aerial performers to Willow Place to inspire local people with a showcase of spectacular skills, followed by free taster sessions in the aerial skills of hoop, silk and trapeze with trained professional teachers. Nikki then intends to continue offering classes on a weekly basis in Corby.

Local hip-hop artist Jamzy will be working with the JAM team to run a 12 week project for young people based at Kingswood Neighbourood Centre. Alongside specialist in DJ’ing and graffiti art, they will offer local young people the chance to learn about the five elements of hip-hop, b-boying, MC’ing, graffiti, DJ’ing and the over-standing of life.

The third successful Big Idea will be a contemporary floral art exhibition run by the Corby & District Flower Club. It will bring a renowned contemporary flower arranger to Corby to inspire people to learn how to use real flowers to create surprising sculptural or wall hanging contemporary displays. The resulting art works will then be displayed at The Rooftop Gallery.

Helen Willmott, Made in Corby’s Programme Manager commented “These projects will give local people of all ages opportunities to participate in a variety of art forms that have not been explored in Corby before. Look out for more details of all these opportunities on our website at www.madeincorby.co.uk or follow us on twitter and facebook”.
